Watch Boxes, Jewelry Chests & Other Boxes

I design and make watch boxes, jewelry chests and other wooden boxes by hand in my workshop in Habo, near Jönköping, Sweden. Some are quite simple and minimal, while others are more complex, with moving parts, hidden compartments and unusual mechanisms.

I spend a lot of time on proportions, on how things move and how they feel in the hand. They should be beautiful objects in themselves, something you enjoy using every day and that can be passed down through generations.

Designed Around What You Keep

I want my pieces to be more than just somewhere to store your watches or jewelry. They should be beautiful objects in themselves, something you enjoy looking at and using, and hopefully something that can be passed down through generations.

Six watches or twelve, rings, necklaces, bracelets or a mix of everything: the interior is designed around your collection. Often I design it from scratch around specific pieces, and I usually leave a little room for the collection to grow.

I love making hidden compartments, small secrets the owner might not notice at first. Names, initials or a short message can be engraved, usually somewhere subtle.

People have also asked me for boxes for playing cards, cigars, car keys, and coffee and tea, and once even for a hair dryer. If there is something you want to keep, I'm happy to design around it.

Commissioning A Watch Box Or Jewelry Chest

What woods and materials do you use?

Some of my favorites are walnut, mahogany, oak, masur birch, burl woods, and fruitwoods like apple and pear. Sometimes the wood connects to what the box will hold or the story behind it. Sometimes it's simply an exceptional piece of wood.

Interiors are usually lined with Alcantara, a soft suede-like material that protects watches and jewelry from scratches. Leather and suede are also possible, and for silver collections I can use linings that help reduce tarnishing. Most pieces are finished with natural oils or hardwax oils.

Can you make a version of an existing design?

Yes. Many clients come to me because they love an existing piece, like FOLD, and want to adjust its size, interior or appearance. We can also develop something entirely new.

What does a custom watch box or jewelry chest cost?

Watch boxes from limited production runs start at around €3,500, and fully custom commissions at around €5,000. A complex piece like FOLD is around €27,000. The price depends on size, materials and complexity, and smaller pieces are sometimes available for less. We agree on the design and price before any work begins.

How does a commission work?

You can start with an idea, a reference image, a piece of mine you like, or simply the collection you want to store. Together we work out the materials, dimensions and details, and agree on the design, price and timeframe.

I make every piece myself and share photos from the workshop as it takes shape. I ship worldwide. Clients, and those planning a commission, are welcome to visit the workshop by appointment. Read more about commissions.

How do I care for it?

Very little care is needed. Unlike a cutting board, a watch box or jewelry chest doesn't need regular oiling, and the finish is made to last for decades. The wood will gain character as it ages. Perhaps in a hundred years someone will want to refresh the finish.
