Custom Pieces

I design and make bespoke furniture, boxes and cabinets in my workshop in Habo, just outside Jönköping, Sweden, for clients around the world. Each piece is made to order, with materials, dimensions and details chosen to suit what you need.

I take on a limited number of commissions each year. You don’t need a fully formed idea before getting in touch. We can work out the details together.

Commissioning A Custom Piece

How does a commission work?

It starts with a message by email, WhatsApp or Instagram. A rough idea is enough. We develop the design together, sometimes with the help of a 3D model or a prototype, and agree on the design and price. Once the deposit is paid, I make the piece and share photos and videos from the workshop as it takes shape.

What can I commission?

Mostly unique furniture and objects in wood, made for a particular person or place:

  • Cabinets and sideboards
  • Tables, from dining and coffee tables to desks
  • Built-in bookshelves, cabinets and storage, measured on site
  • Watch boxes, jewelry chests and other boxes for valuables
  • Small series, such as boxes for a company or as gifts

Which woods do you work with?

It depends on the piece. I often use walnut and mahogany, as well as Scandinavian woods like oak, ash and birch. For small details such as wooden latches, fruitwoods and harder species work well, and I have a soft spot for figured woods like masur birch and curly walnut.

What does a commission cost?

Commissions start from around €5,000, and the price rises with size and complexity. Smaller works and variations on existing designs can sometimes cost less. The main factors are the size and construction, the number of drawers and compartments, the wood, the details and finish, and whether it's a single piece or a series. You get an approximate price early, and the exact price once the design is agreed.

How long does it take?

It depends on the project, whether we need a prototype, and how many commissions I have at the time. I take on a limited number each year, so ask about current availability and you'll get an honest answer. If the piece is for an occasion, like a move, a wedding or an anniversary, mention it early.

Do you deliver, and can I visit the workshop?

I ship worldwide. Smaller pieces like boxes go by carrier, and larger furniture I deliver personally or by private transport, with installation where needed. The workshop in Habo can be visited by arrangement, for clients who have paid a deposit or are seriously considering a commission.
